Story
In April 2023 I will be running the famous Marathon des Sables. The MdS is a six-day Ultra-marathon run over 150-156 miles (254kms), the equivalent of 5 and a half regular marathons in temperatures reaching 50°C. The run is also self sufficient, which means I will be carrying all my food, equipment and everything I need on my back.
The course changes each year, but generally is made up of:
Day 1 - 18 Miles
Day 2 - 24 miles (The Dunes Day)
Day 3 - 19 miles
Day 4 - 53 miles (The Long Day)
Day 5 - 26.2 miles (The Marathon Stage)
Day 6 - 4.8 miles
I will be raising money for the fantastic Trussel Trust, who support a nationwide network of food banks and provide and provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
Between 1 April 2022 and 30 September 2022, food banks in the Trussell Trust’s UK-wide network distributed 1.3 million food parcels to people facing hardship – this is an increase of 52% compared to the same period in 2019. Half a million of these parcels were distributed to children.
For the first time, need for emergency food is outstripping donations as the cost of living emergency is leading to a drastic increase in the number of people turning to food banks for support. That’s why we're incredibly thankful that you are standing alongside us, food banks, and people in financial crisis.
Any amount at all that you can donate would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!
