The final part of the Atlantic Coast Challenge is a 29 mile (49km) marathon along the Cornish coastal path from St Ives Bay Holiday Park to Lands End, with total ascents of 3,180ft. Before training started, I had not run more than 10km in one go... All challenges are relative. This is certainly my biggest to date in 33 years. Please give generously and with some training and sacrifice, I promise I will give everything I can on the run.
Raising money for Cancer Research is imperative. We all know someone who has fought cancer and amazingly beaten it, but has to manage the fallout for the rest of their lives. Most of us know someone who bravely tried beating it but tragically lost their fight. There are far too many who are currently fighting it. Sadly we almost certainly know someone who will get it in the future.
Very recently, my girlfriends father Hans passed away from lung cancer after a brave but impossible battle. He led a healthy, active and successful life with everything to look forward to after just retiring. I will be running this in his memory.
There are also so many of my friends and family who have had to deal with cancer and they will be giving me strength and purpose too. I cannot name them all because the sad truth is, there are simply too many and most don't want to be reminded of it. Some short term pain on a long run pales into nothing compared to the struggles of so many.
