Story

In March 2023 I will cross-country ski for 13 days across the main island of Svalbard, a Norweigan archipelago just south of the North Pole, carrying all my equipment and food in a sled while camping and traveling in temperatures of -10 to -30 in 24-hour daylight. I will also have to be on the lookout for the 3000 polar bears that live and hunt in this cold, harsh, and remote but stunning environment!

Since I completed my arctic survival and cross-country ski training in Norway in February 2022 (you can see some pictures in the gallery), I have been training hard for this trip which will be the toughest physical challenge I've ever taken on. I can't wait to begin this trip so I can continue to raise vital funds and awareness for a hospital that saved my life.

St. Georges Hospital in Tooting, South London is desperately short of funds and I am raising money specifically for the renal (kidney) department as they try to raise enough money to finally build a permanent building for their various clinics and wards. Unbelievably, this truly amazing department which has saved many people's lives has had to work out of prefabricated temporary "cabins" for over 20 years!

I understand times are tough for all with the cost of living crisis but it's about time this wonderful department that does so much good had some proper buildings to work from so I am aiming to raise at least £500 to help their cause. I've chosen to take on such a personally tough challenge to not only raise as much money as I can but to also raise as much awareness as possible about this hospital and the life-changing work it does.

The NHS is on its knees and needs our help more than ever. The tireless staff at St. Georges saved my life when I received a kidney transplant from my sister back in 2007 and the staff at BRI Hospital in Bradford, West Yorkshire fought very hard to try and keep my mum alive while she was very ill with kidney failure as well. Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated and will go towards a very worthy cause.

Thank you!!
