Story
At the beginning of October, I will be climbing the Accursed Mountains with the Acre team on behalf of Plastic Oceans UK. this is an extremely important charity that is focused on the prevention of plastics entering our oceans.
All of the donations go to Plastic Oceans UK and the trip is being funded by myself. I am hoping to achieve and exceed my target of £500 so any donations are very welcome!
Why am I doing this?
I care about the future of our planet and would like to give something back by raising money and awareness for an incredibly important cause. This will be a test of endurance and stamina trekking 19km tackling a mountain twice the size of Snowden and that is just on day one!
Each year an extra eight million tonnes of plastic enters our ocean. That's 51 trillion pieces of plastic now estimated to be floating around out there, with microplastics now being unearthed in our snow, rain, food chain and drinking water.
Plastic has been found in the digestive systems of every single animal involved in a study of dolphins, seals and whales which had died on the UK coast this year, and all seven species of endangered Sea Turtle are now at risk of ingesting or becoming entangled in plastic waste.
Where do your donations go and how does it help?
By supporting Plastic Oceans, you're facilitating education, science and sustainability programmes that will create a wave of change. Through changing attitudes, behaviours and practices on the use and value of plastics, we can stop plastic pollution reaching the ocean within a generation.
