Story
I am fundraising for Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity. Beat supports anyone who has been affected by an eating disorder, including the individual diagnosed and their friends and family.
My own personal experience of anorexia is the reason why Paul and I have decided to participate in this run. I used the services provided by Beat when I was battling anorexia and during my recovery. Countless times I rang the helpline and gained support and reassurance when I was at my lowest, especially when I was waiting for treatment from the NHS. The online resources are fantastic, and they helped educate those around me of eating disorders and how best to support me. The resources and help provided by Beat helped me to explain how I was feeling and what I was thinking to Paul and others, who at times felt lost and overwhelmed trying to support me on the road to recovery.
I started my journey to recover from anorexia four years ago, and I feel very lucky to be in a position today where I am both healthy and happy. I am forever grateful to have received the support from this charity when I needed it the most. The resources they provide and the support they give is so important to so many eating disorder sufferers. Now is the time for us to give something back to the charity that helped me hold onto hope whilst in recovery, and gave me the support I needed to fight anorexia and to start living my life to the full again.
Paul and I will be participating in an obstacle run together, and this will be the first time I have participated in a charity run since recovering- which is a little daunting! (I will have to see if I can dig out my running shoes!!) But most importantly, we are very thankful for the support Beat gave to the both of us, and we hope by raising a bit of money the charity is able to grow and reach more individuals who are in need of urgent help whilst battling an eating disorder.
Any donations or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!!
