Story
Well, we did it! On 14-15 September 2013, Elspeth and I crossed Scotland. Our months of training paid off and we travelled from Nairn to Glencoe by bike, foot and kayak in 15 hours and 3 minutes. On Saturday, the sunny early start on the beach at Nairn was a bonus, and we enjoyed the run to Cawdor Castle and the scenic bike ride(84.6km and the 2837m of climbing!) to Fort Augustus. A short kayak on Loch Ness ended the day and we retreated to lovely Drynachan B & B for the night. Sunday's weather was less pleasant, and the 51km cycle was into driving rain and a strong headwind. Our training meant we could cope with the hills, but I was embarrassed to be snapped by the official photographer pushing my bike down the steepest muddiest section! The 24km trek/run was wet and windy, but not too challenging for Scottish hillwalkers. The swollen rivers and strong winds meant the final kayak was abandoned and we ended up walking to Kinlochleven instead of Glencoe. But it was a great weekend and we enjoyed ourselves enormously. We are very grateful to our families, friends and colleagues who are supporting us and helping us raise crucial funds for Cancer Research UK.
It's not too late to make a donation - we are delighted by the amount we have raised so far! Thank you.
