Story
Many people have sadly lost family or friends to cancer, or know someone who is fighting it now, in remission or cured.
Last year one of our best friends Nicola, lost her mum Elaine to this horrible disease. Elaine was an amazing mum and friend to all of us, a quiet and reserved lady who wouldn't like a fuss being made about her.
Elaine and her family were so brave during her fight, and seeing Nicola's strength, staying positive when she is finding times tough is our inspiration. We want her to know we are always here for her.
And because of her courage she has inspired 10 best friends to pledge to a year of fund raising for cancer research. In memory of Elaine and others we have lost. We have also chosen to support a charity: Histicytosis Uk. Elaine was not one for the limelight and Would smile knowing we are doing something positive for a fairly unknown charity.
Langerhan Cell Hisitiocytosis is a rare type of cancer and this charity in need of much funds for research.
Nicola works with the parents, Rachel and Lee, whose son Jack was diagnosed with Langerhan Cell Hisitiocytosis in 2014 at the age of 3. It was October 2015 when Jack successfully finished his chemotherapy and was able to ring the end of treatment bell.
This as you can imagine was a massive relief and the family could start to get on with their lives. Jack still had regular scans, where there were a few concerns but generally all was good.
Unfortunately this all changed in January this year,
Devastated but determined to be positive as brave Jack begins the tough course of treatment for the second time.
Nicola and Jack's story has inspired us to remember there is always a reason to stay positive.
So to embrace this attitude we start our fund raising year with a 5k race for life on the 13th May. 10 best friends and all of our children...15 in total!!! which will be a challenge in its self just to get to the start line as well as finishing it.
So help us, donate to either one of our chosen charities, Cancer Research and Hisitiocytosis UK, leave a message of support, or even come down to Woodbank park on the 13th May to cheer us on.
Thank you
