Story
Myself along with 4 other work colleagues Zoe, Sally , Dee and Jess are running Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 26th February 2017 in memory of the beautiful Sam Smith . Sam was Zoe's best friend since joining Sussex Police 20 years ago . Some may know Sam as Sam Smith, Detective Inspector Smith or Mrs Sam Ghibaldan.
We are running to raise money on behalf of Sam for The Brain Tumour Charity .
Sams Story
On 29th Janauary 2014 Sam woke up with her normal life - 40 years old, mum of two and police officer of 19 years.
At 4pm later that day Sam woke up on the floor of her house with paramedics and her family around her. Her 6 year old son Joe found her unconscious and called 999,scared.
2 hours later Sam was told that she had a brain tumour and she was devastated.
Since then Sam underwent an operation, radiotherapy and various types of chemotherapy .
For those that knew her , Sam was a true fighter . From diagnosis Sam fought and although she knew it was a battle she could not win she was determined for something positive to come out of her bad situation . She focused on raising vital funds for The Brain Tumour Charity .
The Facts
Brain Cancer is incurable.
It is currently the biggest cancer killer for children and adults under 40.
Despite that , less than 1% of the Government and Cancer Research UK research money is spent on this type of cancer.
The survival rate is the same as it was in the 1970s - only 10% surviving to 5 years.
The Brain Tumour Society are the leaders in driving forward research and moving towards a cure . They are confident we are 5-10 years away from finding that cure.
Sam raised an amazing £60,000 before she passed away on 18th February 2016.
Please help us raise money for Sam's cause - The Brain Tumour Charity .
More money means more research . More research brings hope to those diagnosed .
Thank you for your support .
