Story
Mighty Triglav at 2 864m! Yes I hope to get to the top. Over the past 3 years I have wanted to do it and now have set this challenge to raise funds for the Royal marsden who have helped so many of our friends and family.
I need to get fitter and know the last bit will be tough as the knees go wobbly when I have sheer drops below me!
An update!! One month to go and feeling the nerves. Did a long 9 hr walk on Sunday and reached just under 2000m and Triglav was still way above us. Decent was tough and legs felt like lead! Knees did a few wobblys but just hugged onto the mountain edge and tried not to look down. Need to get in some more training but time!!!
Unfortunately some people cannot make it so please help me raise as much as possible! I have for this reason doubled my original target, thanks!
Only 3 days to go...feeling nervous and excited. Just resting legs this week as found it tough on Sunday when walking. Hope weather improves as wet and cold with snow higher up Hmmmmmmmmmmm....
Watch this space! WE MADE IT!!!
It was just amazing!! I loved it and the training paid off! We had so many good wishes and great weather this just made us smile the whole way. It was so beautiful and the scenery so varied . At times it was tough and scary but I still loved it . The feeling that I was doing it for a good cause just made it even better!
We were up at 5.30am on Saturday morning having not had much sleep, nerves got the best of us.
We were on the path walking by 7am and walked through amazing trees and valleys with Triglav looking down upon us, the top covered in cloud.
After 5 and half hours we reached the hut at 2 400m for lunch and a break with all the little people above us climbing along the ridge. I sat with my back to them feeling rather nervous. Then started our climb up the via ferrata with ropes and harness. I think it was best that the cloud engulfed us at about 2 400m as I could not see the drop below me! It took us 3hrs to get up and down which was the tricky bit. Then down to our hut to stay the night at 2 100m which was another 3 hrs but what a wonderful sunset and just got in before dark and boy was it dark!
We were all feeling a bit sore and tired the next morning so a late start at 8.30am after a good breakfast.
We had to climb up to get out of the valley to go down and this soon got us warmed up! The walk down we came upon wild mountain goat and to my glee also the famous Chamois.
From like being on the moon with craters and scree, so barren then down to the beautiful valley of 7 lakes lush with greenery and forests. It was a long up and down walk with beautiful scenery that brought us home at 5.30pm
I am still on a HIGH and just like to thank my 3 good friends who did it with me, Janie,Fiona and Emily.
Also to thank all those wonderful people who have donated to make this trip such a wonderful success
Their donations have been so appreciated by the Royal Marsden Hospital.
THANK YOU!
