Robson Laidler Coast 2 Coast, 30 August 2019

Story

In a moment of madness and appalling scheduling I am completing the Coast to Coast and the Great North Run in back to back weekends.

It all kicks off on the 30th August when Team Robson Laidler and friends take to the saddle to cycle the 150+ miles from Whitehaven to Tynemouth via the fabled Hartside Pass.

Provided my legs have not fallen off, I will be dusting off my trainers to celebrate the 10 year anniversary since I last ran the Great North Run by trying to beat my PB (1:59), although I will happy take just finishing the course!

My inspiration is my sister (Spesh) who has suffered with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) all her life. She has been an example to me of how to live life in the face of adversity. Her health has recently worsen to the point that she is being assessed for her viability to join the lung transplant list. This recent turn of events would have brought the sky down on lesser people, however it has only focused Spesh to raise more awareness and funds to fight CF. Her most recent fundraiser at her 30th Birthday party raised over £10,000 for the Adult CF ward at St James Hospital in Leeds, and this has inspired me to do something myself.

I have choosen FHLTA as although Spesh lives down in Leeds and receives amazing treatment St James, any transplant will occur up at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. They have made such difference to so many people who experienced the process organ transplantation, and I wanted to give something back to such an incredible organisation who potentially can help my sister.
