Around 60,000 children in the UK suffer from a form of epilepsy. This can affect them and their families in different ways and to differing extents. At the most severe end, epilepsy is a life-threatening and life-limiting condition and one that is not always obvious or well-understood. Around 18,000 of the 60,000 have drug-resistant epilepsy which means that they will have regular seizures that cannot be effectively controlled.

The Daisy Garland (https://www.thedaisygarland.org.uk) is a fantastic charity set up by the parents of Daisy Garland who lost Daisy through sudden death in epilepsy (‘SUDEP’). They help parents and their epileptic children in so many ways like providing hospital-grade blood oxygen monitors to try to keep kids safe at night, giving help and advice on the ketogenic diet (a strict diet for drug-resistant epilepsy) and being there to help families dealing with loss.

Our daughter, Annabelle, now nearly 2, is one of the small number of children who suffers from severe, drug-resistant epilepsy and associated conditions. The Daisy Garland  has supported us through some of the most difficult periods in our lives over the last 18 months and we hope will continue to do so. We’d like to give back even if only in a small way and ensure that they can continue to help other families.
