Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, I'm running the London Marathon 2017 in aid of the Back-Up Trust.
The Back-Up Trust was founded in 1986 with it's sole mission to support those affected by spinal cord injury and encourage those to re-build and adapt their lives in the most positive way possible.
Why Back-Up?
My Dad experienced a life changing accident on Christmas Day 2005. He was doing what he loved fell walking in Snowdonia. I received a phone call from him as he reached the summit of Cadair Idris. The joy and exhilaration I could hear in his voice was one that i'd heard many times when he'd taken me on many adventures up hills and valleys. As with many things in life assumption is a big trait that we pick up. My assumption would be that my Dad would be fine getting back down the mountain just like the hundreds of times he had done before.
Sadly this wasn't the case. He fell 30 feet down a ravine in the matter of seconds with nothing but gravity to take it's course. That split second slip caused a life changing injury that he now lives with every day. Despite this adversity he is giving life everything he's got with immense determination. The adaptations physically and emotionally have and continue to challenge him daily but he finds a way with the incredible love & support of his partner Cath.
In April 2005 I watched my Dad run the London Marathon. As his 16 year old son it was special to support him and I was proud to see him achieving something he wanted to tick off his bucket list, whilst raising awareness of a Charity close to his heart. 12 years on the roles are going to reverse a little and i'm going to be proud to run for the Back-Up cause who have supported him since his injury.
