Story
"Today in the UK, around 480 people will go to hospital with a heart attack. About seven in ten will survive to return home.
Did you know that 81p in every pound raised goes directly towards life saving research.
£10 will pay for all the test-tubes, glassware, pipette tips and gloves a busy team of scientists will use in a day.
£15 could help fund a full day's BHF Heart Nursing Care. In this time a Heart Nurse could care for up to six patients to help them manage their condition and prevent further hospital re-admissions.
£30 pays for a Heartstart schools training pack which provides teachers with a specialised Emergency Life Support (ELS) skills package to teach children what to do in a life-threatening emergency.
£140 could help fund a cardiac nurse working on the Heart Helpline for a day.
£200 could help fund a young scientist for a whole day to better understand how to diagnose, prevent, treat and cure heart disease.
Last June, The Howlett family said goodbye to my Gran, the Fabulous Phyllis Howlett, who sang her way into the next world. This June, I will be celebrating her memory by trekking, non-stop for 30 hours from Glasgow-Edinburgh. Walking by day I will take in the stunning views of Scotland whilst through the night I'll encounter dark pathways, shadowy tunnels and moonlit canals. This event will indeed challenge me both mentally and physically. But with every footstep I will remember.
The British Heart Foundation is the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research. Their work has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are helping to change the face of the UK's fight against heart disease. I have chosen to support this charity as I believe every pound raised, every minute of time and every donation to this cause will help make a massive difference to people’s lives.
Please join me on my journey in supporting the British Heart Foundation. Together, we can make a difference. Thank you.
