Story

On Sunday 14th June Ella was diagnosed with a kidney tumour. She was immediately transferred to QMC where she was admitted for a week whilst various scans and a biopsy were done.

Ten days later it was confirmed that Ella had a rare type of childhood cancer called Nephroblastoma or Wilms' Tumour.  When a baby is growing in the womb, the kidneys develop very early on. Sometimes something goes wrong and some of the cells that should have turned into a mature kidney cell do not.  Instead they stay as very immature cells.  Often these immature cells mature by the time the child is 3 or 4, but if they don't the begin to grow out of control and they develop into a cancer known as Wilms' Tumour.

Ella started a high dose 6 week course of chemotherapy on Thursday 23rd June to shrink her kidney tumour and treat her lungs where the cancer has spread to. She is booked into surgery to remove her right kidney on Thursday 20th August and faces an intensive radiotherapy course after his. Since starting the chemotherapy she has lost all of her hair; but her kidney tumour has reduced in size and she is a much happier little girl than she was.

Nic has been looking after Ella for nearly a year and during this time we have all grown very attached to this beautiful, fun loving girl.  We would like to raise money for research into child cancers in Ella's name.
