Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most of us wouldn’t like to know how much we spend in total over the festive season, but it’s likely to be a lot! However, could you imagine having to live every day, including Christmas day, on just £1 for all of your food and drink? Well thousands of people across the world do and, on week commencing 14th January, so will JCI UK!
As a recipient of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award, JCI UK will be kicking off the year by showing just how much they deserve the recognition by living on just £1 for food and drink for 1 week to raise money and awareness for charity. This is based on one of the UN Millennium Goals (to be reached by 2015), eradicate extreme poverty & hunger. Did you know that hunger is the world’s number 1 health risk?! It kills more people a year than Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis combined!
So you might be thinking, how will this raise money? Participants are asked to work out how much their average weekly food & drink spend is, subtract £7, and donate the difference to the cause. So, if my weekly spend was £40, I would donate the £33 difference.
There is also an option for supporters of the event. People who are not fully partaking are asked to sacrifice 1 thing that week, such as a bottle of wine, and donate what it would have cost.
