Story
The Jolly Boys are a group of friends who have been cycling together for over five years and this is our third "big" cycle. There are 6 of us cycling from Santander to Santiago de Compostela covering approximately 350 miles, climbing over 21,500 feet and drinking loads of beers (numbers to be confirmed after the ride!!).
We have started our training in earnest and are now starting to build up both the mileage and the climbs so that we are fit enough to take on the challenge, and as we range in age from 58 to 70 years old there is still a lot to do. Added to that is our own personal trials we (almost literally) have a mountain to climb, over the last few years members of our team have;-
- battled male breast cancer
- had a pacemaker fitted and suffered a stroke
- diagnosed with Crohn's disease
- had two brain tumors removed
and the other two are just a little bit too large to be considered cyclists!!!
As we are taking on this challenge we thought that it was an excellent opportunity to raise monies for a worthwhile cause and after much discussion we have chosen the James Hopkins Trust, which we think is a very worthwhile cause and one we hope that you will support generously
James Hopkins Trust provides care and support for Gloucestershire’s families and their young children who are life limited or life threatened.
Some parents will know their baby has a condition that will cause severe disability or shorten their life before they are born, other babies will be diagnosed soon after birth or in early childhood. Often no-one can tell you how long your child will live, only that they need constant care. James Hopkins Trust exists to help these children and their families.
