Story
As the weather gets colder, I can't wait to get home at the end of each day to relax in the warmth with a nice cup of tea, or eat a hot meal in front of the fire before before falling asleep in a comfortable bed. But many people on the streets face long, lonely nights in the cold with nothing to eat or drink and no way of staying warm.
Freezing temperatures cause immune systems to drop and blood pressures to rise increasing the risk of a heart attack, stroke, hypothermia and frost bite to face, hands and feet. At the moment, I count my blessings and feel grateful for what I have every day; make the occasional donation to our school food bank; and buy the odd cup of tea when I come across a homeless person in the street... but the more I see, the more I realise that it's not enough.
Jon and I have decided to do the Santa Dash on Sunday 4th December to raise money for the Whitechapel Centre, an initiative set up in 1975 to help homeless people in Liverpool. Please do your bit and donate whatever you can! x
