We help blind veterans to discover a life beyond sight loss

Story

Thank you for taking the time to make it this far, please read on.

Most people that know me are quite used to my spontaneous activities and ideas, but many people have seriously questioned me on this one, until they found out why. So here goes...

I have volunteered for Blind Veterans UK for about 3 years and I cannot speak highly enough of the experience and skills it has given me. For those that don't know, this is a charity which provides training and rehabilitation to visually impaired ex-service men and women, alongside some fun filled and somewhat crazy activities they participate in with the help of staff and volunteers.

I have done various placements in very challenging situations and I love meeting new people wherever I am. At the Llandudno Centre however, I have met unforgettable people that have impacted me as a person and how I look at life in front of me. The rehabilitation training they have available is brilliant and can make a big difference to their lives when they head home from the Centre. A fundamental belief of the charity is that there is life beyond sight loss, which I couldn't agree with more.

I have had various training experiences which I have been fortunate to participate in with Blind Veterans UK as a charity but also external sources, and as a result, I have a continued personal interest in visual impairment awareness. On a personal level, I wanted to do something that will challenge me and push my boundaries in order to give something back to the charity for continued support of the great work they do.

I will be walking up Snowdon blindfolded with a guide next summer, and would appreciate any support for this, even just to spread the word. There are still many ex-service men and women that may not have had the chance to experience what Blind Veterans UK has to offer, let's spread the word whilst supporting the charity in their development.

Let the training commence!
