Story
I'm running since 6 years. I started again in the first year of my research, after a long break. Since then a lot has changed in my life: I have moved countries, had several part-time jobs to support myself throughout my PhD, wrote and defended a thesis, taught at universities and in secondary schools, met my other half, and made many close friends.
One thing that was constant was research, and my enjoyment of running long distances. The former fills me with excitement, the latter with a deep calmness.
And one thing that I always keep in mind is that illness can strike anyone at any time. People around me, in my family, and in the family of my partner, have suffered from serious health issues. Cancer is one of the deadliest and most widespread among the many challenges people might have to face in their lives. Sometimes its treatment and containment is hard, expensive, and demanding. Organizations like Macmillan are vital to a healthy society and community because they can support people, and their families and friends, in times of need.
The long journey that my research and running embody taught me that every little bit of work, every little bit of support helps on the way towards success, and this is why I'm raising donations for Macmillan. It is great if you can give, but even if you can't give a lot, what matters is that you are a committed giver who regularly makes an effort and contributes. Thanks to all of you for your support.
