Story

The Persisters present

HOLDING THE LINE
A celebration of feminism through poetry and the live arts - raising money for Women's Aid.

The Persisters is a newly established network of feminist poets and artists. We are intersectional and inclusive. We are concerned about the turning tide in the rights of women and all minorities.

HOLDING THE LINE will be a day of artistic activism and excellence, fund-raising (for Women's Aid) and spirit-raising (for us all), on 8 April at The Star of Kings, London N1 0AX, from 3pm to midnight (readings from 3-8pm). Entry to the event is free if you would like to join us.

During the day, well-known poets will perform alongside newer poets in a series of sponsored poetry readings about women, their lives and their rights.

I will be reading briefly at 6 p.m – but do come early and stay late!

From 8 p.m. onwards, invited guests will lead us into an evening of live
music, comedy, poetry and mayhem, culminating in a party with more music and dancing. There will be wild words, balloon animals and a cocktail created specially for the occasion!

I am reading in the early evening as part of a day with dozens of other poets to raise money for Women’s Aid, a grassroots federation working together to provide life-saving services for women and children, seeking to build a future where domestic violence is not tolerated.

2 (UK) statistics to bear in mind:
* On average, two women are killed every week by a current or former partner
* On average, one emergency call regarding domestic abuse is made to police every thirty seconds

Women's Aid do vital work supporting women affected by such violence. You can help support them by sponsoring me or my fellow poets here.
Any donation you can give, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated, and will go straight to Women's Aid.

(If you are personally affected by this issue, please call the Women's Aid freephone 24-hour helpline on 0808 2000 247, or contact them online at helpline@womensaid.org.uk)

Entry to the event itself is free, so please join us on the day for poetry, play, laughter and conversation.
