Story
Hi,
On the 19th of March, my colleagues and I are taking part in a 100 mile run to raise funds for the Bradford Burns Unit Appeal.
The distance from the Macquarie London Office (City Point) to the Bristol Office (The Core) is just over 100 miles, which we are sharing out between 8 of us, running in Leeds. Thus equating to about a half marathon each! This will be quite a challenge for the team and especially me (Some of you know my shocking fitness levels at 5-a-side Football).
The Bradford Burns Unit was set up due to a flash fire that burnt down an entire stand at Bradford City FC 25 years ago. The fire engulfed one of the stands at Valley Parade (Bradford’s home ground), claiming the lives of 56 people including children and the elderly. Over 200 people suffered terrible burns injuries as they tried to escape the blazing inferno. The Burns Research Unit at the University of Bradford was set up in the wake of the disaster. The unit was established with money from public donations and the tremendous efforts of many local groups and to continue the pioneering work the unit needs help once more. To mark the 25th anniversary of the Bradford FC tragedy an appeal has been set up to raise £100,000 for the Burns Unit. This is a very worthy cause to save the world renowned Bradford Burns Unit and your donation will help prevent the closure of this vital research facility. You can learn more about the unit at http://www.plasticsurgery-bradford.org/ . Kindly the company that I work for will match any funds I raise, thus in effect doubling what you contribute! I sincerely hope you can help by donating to this deserving cause! There will be plenty of photos taken for your viewing pleasure and you can witness all the pain we will inevitably have to endure!
