Story
Dear Family and Friends,
I will undertake my first expedition with Her Planet Earth and Just Challenge in support of underprivileged women affected by climate change. I have decided to challenge myself by trekking 80km for eight days through Iceland’s dramatic landscape from lava fields, waterfalls and glaciers - all whilst raising funds and awareness for UN Women UK.
My expedition is entirely self-funded, which means that 100% of the funds raised here will go straight to UN Women UK.
All funds raised on Challenge Iceland 2019 will go towards projects focused on the economic empowerment of women in rural areas of Asia, notably in Bangladesh, Nepal and Vietnam - supporting the belief that women have the right and the need to be at the forefront of efforts to deal with climate change.
Here are a few examples of how donations can help:
US$50- Could provide a series of leadership and self-esteem workshops for women and girls to give them the skills and confidence to respond to these climate risk challenges.
US$500- Could help us to set up a livelihood project that empowers women business leaders in agriculture to manage their businesses in at-risk areas.
US$1,000- Could allow us to work with governments to develop Post-Disaster Needs Assessments (PDNAs) to inform disaster recovery strategies and national disaster management planning.
With your generous support, UN Women can build on what they have already achieved in Bangladesh, Nepal and Vietnam to increase the scale and effectiveness of their work, having a significant impact on women and girls in areas at risk of natural disasters.
Thank you so much for your interest and your donation.
Have a lovely day!
