Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For those of you who know me well enough I have recently started pursuing one of my life's passions outside of work, hiking. Though a beginner, I am keen to challenge myself in aid of #Moat50for50. I am lucky enough to have my own personal assistant willing to guide me through the Yorkshire Dales to complete the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.
The Yorkshire 3 peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Yorkshire 3 Peaks route is 24 miles long, and includes 5,200ft (1,585m) of ascent. This is far longer than any hike I have completed before.
It's all in aid of Moat's '50for50' fundraising campaign. To celebrate turning 50 years old, the housing association that I work for is raising £50,000 for five very important charities. My own fundraising will contribute to the overall totals.
As mentioned, there are five charities that we're raising for, but one is particularly close to my heart. As most of you may know I am Moat's Anti-Social Behaviour and Domestic Abuse Strategic Co-ordinator. Throughout my 8'ish years at Moat I have worked in and out of domestic abuse refuges, and directly with victims, signposting them to support organisations and in some cases assisting with injunctions. I have seen first hand it's prevalence and the long lasting effects domestic abuse has on it's victims and their families. SATEDA is a specialist organisation based in Swale, Kent who are working hard to provide direct access to support, advocacy and advice for victims of domestic abuse (whether they be male or female) through a range of service provisions.
The £10,000 being raised for them will make a phenomenal difference to the charity and to the victims that it helps.
In addition, we're also raising money for:
- Children of Choba: improves education and health prospects in the village of Choba, Tanzania. Some of Moat's people have visited Choba to help build classrooms and our Director of Neighbourhoods is a trustee of the charity.
- Moat Foundation: Moat's very own charity, helping young and disadvantaged people to improve life changes and employment opportunities.
- Centrepoint: The national homeless charity supporting young people aged 16 to 25.
- Porchlight: The Kent based charity providing support to homeless people and families.
