Irwin Mitchell are pleased to be taking part once again in the  Manchester Legal Walk 2010 fundraiser in aid of the North West Legal Support Trust.  Our team will be following a 10km route around Manchester, starting from the Civil Justice centre, raising funds for Pro Bono work in the North West. 

The North West Legal Support Trust distributes the funds it raises to help fund not-for-profit organisations that provide free legal advice and information to the public in the North West of England. These are people who would otherwise go without, because they are unable to access legal aid. Alternatively they may receive initial assistance which allows them to then access the legal aid to which they are entitled.

The individuals may be subject to large debts and are being pursued by debt recovery agents; their housing may be at risk due to an inability to cover their rent, or an error in relation to the payment of their housing benefit; or their employment may be in jeopardy, which may in turn lead to debt and housing issues. As civil legal aid spending decreases, the support these organisations give and the work of lawyers acting in a pro bono capacity is more important than ever.
