Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've been associated with the Meningitis charity for nearly ten years having first become aware of the virus while completing the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara desert in 2002.

My mum had contracted Pneumococal Meningitis and, given I was in the middle of the desert was faced with having to continue the race not knowing just how serious her condition was. Thankfully I was able to return to the UK and spent some very precious time with her before she passed away .What my family and I found most shocking was that we were not aware of this disease affecting older people. We all associated Pneumococal Meningitis with the under 5’s and teenagers ….however it can affect any age group at any stage of their lives and can have such devastating effects on the body, sometimes causing death within 4 hours of it being diagnosed.  At Meningitis UK their vision is to create a preventive vaccine to eradicate all forms of this dreadful disease and in doing so, help spare families this heartache.

So please dig deep and donate now

Many Thanks
