Story
A life-long racing enthusiast, John had the privilege of owning many racehorses over his lifetime. Some were very successful, some not so much, but John loved all of them and treated each and every one as a family pet. All of John’s horses found happy retirement after their racing careers came to an end and several went on to a second career as a riding horse with one in particular even finding great success in the dressage arena! And as someone who rode regularly throughout his life and who at one stage even seriously considered becoming a full time jockey, John was acutely aware of the risks associated with the sport of racing. Fortunately for his family and those many, many riders that are protected each and every day by Champion safety gear, John decided to develop his business interests instead of donning his skull cap and silk full time.
Even with the best made and most rigorously tested safety gear, injuries among jockeys are still all too commonplace and The Injured Jockeys Fund does amazing work helping jockeys whose injuries have forced some of them to give up riding. Since its foundation in 1964, The Injured Jockeys Fund has provided care, compassion and financial help to over 1000 injured jockeys and is still dedicated to helping injured jockeys whenever needed.
