Story

By Rob Mobile - Joe's CheerleaderThanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. This page has been setup to take donations from various charity bike rides and live music gigs, organised by friends and family members of Joseph Lunn, my beautiful nephew, who lost his battle with cancer at the tender age of 19.

Next Event: Ride London Essex 100 - 26th May 2024. Team info: Karl Guest, Pier D’alessio, Steve Johnson, Rex Cortes, and Rob Mobile.

If you can spare a few £'s, please smash that donate button and give what you can... and should you need more inspiration, check out Joseph's story below.

Joseph’s Story - The Inspiration Behind It All:

Joseph was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma in 2019 at the age of 17. This rare form of cancer comes from different types of soft tissue, such as muscle or ligaments. It is often found in the arm, leg, or foot, and near joints such as the wrist or ankle. More rarely, it can also form in soft tissues in the lung or abdomen, which was the case with our Joseph. One third of patients with synovial sarcoma will be diagnosed under 30 and is somewhat more common in males.

During the next two years, many people helped, supported, and assisted Joseph on his journey, but one charity that did so much for him was Rays of Sunshine. Rays helped Joseph and his family get through some of the most difficult times, and in granting special wishes, enabled them to create lasting memories that will live forever in our hearts.

One of these special moments was a fabulous trip to New York City, to spend time with the New York Giants at a training session, becoming an honorary member of the team, and to walk out with his hero, Saquon Barkley, for the coin toss. He then enjoyed a side line view of the game, alongside his family and the rest of the Giants team.  His smile from that trip is firmly branded in our images of him and will be remembered forever.

Rays of Sunshine brightens the lives of seriously ill children across the UK, by granting wishes and providing ongoing support in hospital. To help Rays of Sunshine continue their tireless work, we are taking on charity bike rides and offering live music services in exchange for donations. We are looking to help Rays of Sunshine grant wishes for many more children and young people, like Joseph, so that more lasting memories and beautiful smiles can live on in families across the UK. For more information on Rays, check out the website:

The Lasting Legacy: Joseph himself also gave back in time, sweat and tears, when he completed his phenomenal 100 miles for 1000 smiles 'Virtual Prudential Ride London' bike ride on his smart trainer, surrounded by family and friends, and raised over £20K; an inspiration we are taking forward in his honour and to extend his fantastic legacy!

We brighten the lives of seriously ill young people by granting wishes and providing ongoing support. Our wishes are as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a fireman, meet a real-life mermaid or even the Loch Ness Monster, we work hard to make that wish come true.
