Hi Everyone!!
First of all thank you for at least visiting my page!
So way back in November I heard about a great charity called Raleigh that set up expeditions in various locations around the world. I saw that they had a rather generous bursary award for recent graduates that were from low income families. I applied for this award and after a rather difficult grilling they emailed me a few days later and offered me the award to do a 10 week expedition in Costa Rica and Nicaragua in July 2011! As you can imagine I was as pleased as pie about this news. Then came the realisation that there is no way in life that I was able to make the financial contribution on my own.
Just when I had lost hope and figured that I would have to decline the awesome award the kind staff at Raleigh not only gave me an extension on my deposit deadline they also provided me with a host of ideas and tips on how I could go about raising the cash so that I didn't miss out on this wonderful opportunity. I feel positive that with all of your help and donations I can make the amount needed and go off and be proactive in a South American community.
So I have now decided that I shall face possibly my biggest fear in life and that is heights! On Saturday 12th March I'm going to do a Bungee jump! Half of the battle is getting up there in the first place the second half is launching myself off! I do plan on documenting this momentous occasion on film for the whole world to see me having a panic attack with tears streaming down my face, all in the name of charity. Please please help me raise the funds for this trip it is an opportunity that doesn't come about often.
So Thank you everyone for taking the time out of your day to read this and if you donate no matter how small it will be greatly appreciated.
Raleigh is a registered charity and they specialise in sustainable developments in countries that are in need. They work closely with the host country's government, NGO's, and other ongoing projects to help decide how they can help make the communities better. As part of the expedition I will be living and working within the community with the option of helping to build a community centre or a secondary school. I will also be working on turtle conservation with local scientists and researchers. Towards the end of the expedition there will be a 19 day 300km trek along the volcanic ridges in Costa Rica. More information can be found on their website www.raleighinternational.org
