Thank you for visiting my page I made for my father and legend.. David (Doug)Wylie.
This year, whilst pursuing my dream of travelling australia and the world, I received the heartbreaking news that my dad had been diagnosed with a rare brain tumour, primary CNS lymphoma. The only decision I was faced with was to return home to Scotland to be with him and my family during this difficult time. This is a complete shock to everyone who knows David. My dad served as an officer in the Royal Navy for 35 years.. he is physically very fit and always active.. I tell all my friends he's like a Scottish Chuck Norris haha! He is always on the go and loves life, even if it's climbing a mountain, skiing or running a marathon. He has the funniest personality and all my friends love him.. half the jokes I tell come from my dad. After this horrible news it reinforces that something as basic as your health, should NEVER be taken for granted, even if you're "well hard"... as people describe big Doug :) this brings me on to the next point..
Currently, brain tumour research only accounts for less than 1% of the national spend in all cancer research, despite it being the no.1 cancer killer in under 40s, reducing life expectancy around 20 years. Only 18.8% of people diagnosed will live up to 5 years... these facts alone urge us to take action, not only for my dad but for everyone who is or is living through this same ordeal. I know that any changes we make with your help, will be a step forward for research.
It's important to my dad that even though I will have to put my dream on hold, that I return to Australia for a few weeks. While I'm there, I will be doing a skydive at mission beach to help raise money for his cause. As well as this skydive, I will also undertake other challenges over the year along with family and friends help and support. We are all grateful for any donation, no matter how great or small.. and anyone from any corner of the world can contribute :) let's raise awareness for exceptional people like my dad, he is a true legend and is loved by everyone! Even being faced with this horrible disease, he continues to joke around with his brave face on.. I will do anything for him and I'm very proud of him. Now it's my turn to make him proud of me.
