UPDATE - 21.5.12!
It’s the day after the run, and even my fingers are that stiff I’m struggling to type this note!
The main news is that so far I’ve raised almost £2000 for Beechwood Cancer Care and all the pain was well worth it! I will be hounding a few more people for some support so I remain confident that you will have contributed in a massive way to us achieving our target. Patients at Beechwood will benefit hugely from your generosity, so thanks to all.
I finished the race in 49 minutes and 59 seconds – way under my estimated time. I think that is because the route took me past Old Trafford football ground and I just had to get past that as fast as possible! In all the euphoria, I’m even thinking of running the race again next year – but only if I can raise even more money next time. If anyone fancies running the race for Beechwood then just let me know – would be great to see you on the day!
Thanks again for all your support – job well done by all.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fund raising page. It’s true, I’m going to ‘run’ 10k for charity.
You’ll probably recall I had my own cancer scare a few years ago. With fantastic treatment and medical care, it would appear I’ve beaten it. What I didn’t fully appreciate at the time was the traumatic effect my illness had on my family, especially my children. There was no obvious medical support available for them. Luckily, we found Beechwood Cancer Care Centre (enquiries@beechwoodcancercare.co.uk) a Charity whose purpose is to help anyone whose life has been affected by the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other illnesses. My family, and particularly my children, benefited hugely from the care provided at Beechwood. This Charity really is a gem. I was delighted to be appointed as a Trustee to the charity just over a year ago.
With your kind donations I want to raise at least £1000 - that’s your challenge. If I can complete £10k, I know you’ll help hit this target. Just follow the Just Giving process and don’t forget gift aid. Comments of support will be appreciated too. I’ll update this fund raising page when I’ve finished to confirm the world record breaking time!
I'll be posting regular updates on the progress of my training (loose term) and can report that, currently, I can just about manage 5k!
The support so far has been great. Those of you who know me through work will understand that I’ve raised my target to £2000, but at this stage am still aiming to complete the run within 60 minutes. As usual best of both worlds! Training not going bad at all. I reckon I’ll manage the 10k but just need to make sure the last 2k isn’t on my hands and knees!
