Thank you so much for 2016 and here's to a successful 2017.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

The '3 Ton Challenge'

The First Ton.

On the 24th June 2016, there will be 82 cyclists that will be riding the first stage of the 2016 Tour de France, some 117 miles from Mont Saint-Michel to the iconic D-Day landing site, Utah Beach, just 8 days before the Pro's take it on, and i will be one of them.

The Second Ton.

On the 31st July 2016 i will be taking part in the prestigious Prudential Ride London. 100 miles, riding on closed roads, from the Olympic Park through the city of London and out to the Surrey Hills taking in the infamous zig zag climb of Box Hill before heading back to the city via Putney, along Whitehall turning left under Admiralty Arch and finishing along the Mall.

The Third & Final Ton.

The postponed, (from 22nd May), grueling Plymouth Gran Fondo 104 mile route from Plymouth, Prince William Yard all the way round, up and down, in a huge via Lisekred and Seaton back to Torpoint and over the ferry to finish back where we started at Prince William Yard.

Not too bad for a disabled cyclist!

I will be riding these events in memory of Don Exell, a family member who sadly lost his battle to Prostate Cancer on the 11th January 2010.

Don was an enthusiastic person who enjoyed life with his family. He played golf, tennis & bridge and had a wonderful career with British Aerospace which included some 20 years working on Concorde.

He was born on the 23rd January 1937 in Thornbury and lived subsequently in Tetbury, Chester, France and finally in the Isle of Wight with his wife Sally. He had two sons, Alan and Gary and two grandsons William and James who were his pride and joy.

Sadly his Prostate Cancer lay undetected until it was too late, but determination and good medical care kept him going for four years when he finally passed away at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. Medical science is making good progress in combating Prostate Cancer and any donation you can make will ensure that others do not die unnecessarily in the future.

Please remember, if you do decide to be generous enough to support my efforts by making a donation, please remember to fill out the gift aid so we can claim that tiny bit more for such a worthy cause.

A little more about Ian

So i will be 47 when i take on this challenge. That's not a reason to shout i know, but maybe this is?

I have only this year got back on the bike after some 30 years. Im registered disabled, having combated Fibromyalgia, 8 damaged disc's in my back and chronic sciatica for the past 20 years at least. More recently i have been blessed with arthritis and impingement of the AC joint in the right shoulder and tempro mandibular displacement joint dysfunction in my left jaw. So not the perfect specimen of health, however i do still run my own building business and try to keep myself as busy and as active as possible to help stave off the symptoms of the Fibromyalgia for as long as possible.

I have been a smoker for the past 40 years and i will become a grandfather in February 2016. So this is my chance to prove to myself that i CAN change my lifestyle for the better.

Its time to get my teenage fitness back and prove a disability will NOT stop you achieving your goals in life. Riding in memory of a family member i never got to spend enough time with, Don Exell

A man who achieved so much in life and never seemed to show a down side even when he beat off Prostate Cancer for some four years, before he finally died on the 11th January 2010. Sadly missed by all that loved and knew him.

Also, while not a victim of cancer, i will be riding for my son, Jordan James Gregory, who we lost to the angles aged just 15 weeks old on the 24th March 1996 to cot death. These will be two images that will adorn the cross bar of my bike to give me the boost and support i need to keep on pedalling when i feel the pain.
