CEO SLEEPOUT – 12 MAY, 8PM-6AM
On Thursday 12 May I will be taking part in an event called CEO Sleepout. I am not a "CEO" however by taking part means that I am able to do something for a cause that I am passionate about. I have set up a ‘Just Giving’ page here for people to sponsor me: https://www.justgiving.com/Ian-Outterson
The idea is that people with a place to live and food on their plates spend a night out ‘sleeping rough’, and are sponsored by their families and friends, with the money raised going to support homeless people in the Middlesbrough area. This year the aim is to set up a not-for-profit restaurant that will provide catering jobs for recovering addicts and alcoholics, those who have suffered from homelessness, and those recently released from prison. A proportion of the money will also go to the Mayor of Stockton’s charities, which include Butterwick Hospice and the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
I do not know how ‘rough’ the ‘sleeping rough’ will be. The location, Preston Park Museum, is quite a prestigious place, a far cry from my days in the forces. Some of you will remember my later years in the forces and "the Foremans Bed". I am not so sure this will be quite so comfy. I believe there will be toilets and hot drinks available all night, which is more than many homeless people have, but other than a sleeping bag, there are no other comforts.
I have never done anything like this before but I hope that this small gesture can go some way to assisting those who have fallen on hard times. If I make a difference in just one life........Please help me do that.
