Thank you so much for viewing my JustGiving page. If you've got this far then there's a good chance you're already a generous type. I guess I now need to ask you to show your generosity by way of donating as much money as you can towards this truly remarkable charity I am so proud to be fundraising for.
I have always wanted to run the 'Viking Way' long distance footpath. In 2012 I decided enough dreaming and to 'just do it'. And so began my steps towards making a dream become a reality. Telling a patient one day (i'm a Physiothertapist in North Lincs) of my plans she asked if I was doing it for a charity. I replied that i'm sure I would be but I had no charities in mind at that stage. My patient suggested I take a look at a local charity called 'When You Wish Upon a Star' (WYWUAS).
So later that night having got my little girl off to sleep I logged onto the charities website......that was it then.....I AM GOING TO DO IT I was telling myself. But the focus of my ultra-run had changed. It was no longer about me and my run, it was now about raising as much money as the generosity of the public would permit.
Being a proud and loving and caring and protective parent (just like any parent) of a lively and beautiful and healthy 6 year-old daughter, my thoughts and dreams and aspirations all revolve around her. The thought of Ellie being in any way in pain or distress or anguish does not sit well with me.
After several attempts I was finally able to read the stories of those children and their families who have had their wishes 'granted' by WYWUAS. Sadly, these wishes are often granted prior to the tragic premature passing of these brave little souls, and worse still the wishes sometimes come too late for them to be granted.
My aim is quite simple. By running The Viking Way footpath and Humber Bridge over 4 consecutive days between August 22-25th 2013 (153 miles, just short of 6 marathons), I would like YOU to donate as much money as you can in aid of this truly remarkable charity.
Your donation will only take minutes, but the wonderful memories it will help create will last a grieving family a lifetime.
PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY. I have included below further information about the charity.
About
In this region, the office is run b...y mother and daughter team, Pat and Joanne Wright. We have been working for the children in our area for 16 years now and over that period have made around 2,500 dreams to come true for our area's most deserving children.
Each year we take around 100 children with terminal and incurable illnesses, to go and see the real Santa in Lapland. For all children this is incredible, but for our children, many of whom undergo more harsh and painful treatments than we could ever imagine, it is a magical world away from hospitals, treatments and trauma.
Lapland isn't the only "wish" we do - as for some this isn't suitable, so we try and do whatever a child's "wish" is - whether that be to meet a favourite celebrity, ride in a fast car, have a holiday in one of our villas in Cornwall or Alicante, or even a holiday to Disney in Florida. Our list is endless but it's true that we can only do this with the help and support of our local community.
So please help us to spread the word, support our events if you can, because we have lots of fun along the way and believe that's what fundraising is about. If you can help or would like an information pack, please don't hesitate to contact us in one of the ways below.
