Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 7th July this year I will be aiming to complete the Outlaw 70.3 Triathlon at Holkham in Norfolk. For anyone who’s not sure, that’s a 1.2 mile swim (think 72 length of your local baths without the side to push off), a 56mile bike ride followed by a half marathon (13.1 miles).
This is going to be an exceptionally difficult challenge for me, not just because of the training and distances involved but the added difficulties of having to keep my Ménière’s disease in remission. This being the case I am going to try and raise a bit of money for the Ménière’s Society in the process.
Ménière’s disease is a long term, progressive condition affecting the balance and hearing parts of the inner ear. Symptoms are acute attacks of vertigo (severe dizziness), fluctuating tinnitus, increasing deafness, and a feeling of pressure in the ear. Sufferers of the disease can struggle live a normal life as attacks can be random and very distressing, meaning holding down a job can also be difficult. As with any chronic disease this can affect a person’s mental health and often lead to anxiety and depression and a feeling of being isolated with an illness that people can’t see and that many haven’t heard of.
The Ménière’s Society is the only UK registered charity dedicated solely to supporting people with Ménière’s disease and vestibular disorders causing dizziness and imbalance. The Society provides information to patients, carers, health professionals and the public,as well as funding vital research.
If you would like to sponsor me I would greatly appreciate it, even if it’s just a few pounds. I want to spread awareness of condition and also prove to fellow suffers that we can still do extraordinary things!
