In memory of Glenn Whitehead
We use the power of football to change lives across Sussex

Story

Thank you for visiting my page.
I started off running back in 2001, as the result of a tragic loss of my future father-in-law, Glenn Whitehead, who was a massive Seagulls fan. Over the years I've undertaken 4x London Marathons & 4x Brighton Marathons, with countless half marathons along the way.
...but that clearly hasn't been enough and this year I am undertaking the toughest footrace on Earth - the Marathon Des Sables; a gruelling multi-stage adventure through the Sahara desert. I have to be self-sufficient and carry all of my own food & equipment for the week in my back pack. Communal goat's-hair berber tents are pitched for us every night but, apart from that I have to take everything with me. Water is even rationed & if I exceed the ration, I get a time penalty.

So what will I be facing???

*250+kms (156+ miles) through endless dunes, over rocky jebels & across white-hot salt plains

*6 stages over 7 days including a long stage of 80+kms (52+ miles)

*Temperatures of 50+ degrees centigrade.

.....still think i'm mad?! Possibly I am.....

So this is my opportunity to do something special to give back to others, who are in many ways just as strong or stronger than I am,or ever will be.....

This is where Albion in the Community (AITC) feature, AITC is the official charity of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club.

They use the popularity of football and the reach of the club to engage and inspire local people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds giving them opportunities they may never have had.

They deliver a wide range of programmes – from football to health and wellbeing, from education and qualifications, to disability and social inclusion – helping people raise their aspirations and reach their full potential. They're incredibly proud to say they help people change their lives for the better.

Three main objectives -

1 - Inspire people to be active : Inspire and motivate young people and their families to be physically active and to lead healthy lifestyles.

2 - Increase participation : Provide opportunities for young people to play football whatever their ability or background.

3 - Raise aspirations : Work with our local community, particularly those that are disadvantaged, to help raise aspirations and improve life chances.
