Story

On Friday August 10 4 intrepid Hozelock employees will embark on a  4 day, 440 mile cycle ride – all in the name of charity.

Hozelock has 2 official charity partners, Greenfingers [http://www.greenfingerscharity.org.uk/index.html] & Help for Hero’s [http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/]. All funds raised from the charity cycle will be split equally between the two charities.

The adventure starts at our sister factory in Vitry-le-François in France, back to Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham.  The plan is to tackle the 440 miles [not including wrong turns!] and 3800 meters of climbing [nearly 3 times the height of Ben Nevis] over 4 days.

Where?

Friday 10 August 2012

Vitry to St Quentin

204.52km - 127miles

744.42m of climbing

1,102.99m of climbing

 Sunday 12 August 2012

Why? [For Charity of course!]

Greenfingers [http://www.greenfingerscharity.org.uk/index.html] which is a small national charity dedicated to creating magical gardens for children’s hospices around the UK to support children with life limiting conditions, together with their families.

Help for Hero’s [http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/] which was founded in 2007 out of a desire to help wounded Servicemen and women returning from overseas conflict.

Who? [Team Hozelock]

Neil Bailey                    -              Cash & Credit Manager

Richard Burton             -              DC Team Co-Coordinator

Gary Cox                      -              Transport Manager

Chris Lester                 -              DC Shift Supervisor

Training […..Work in Process!]

Training has been going well, as some of the team already commute to work via two wheels, or consider cycling a hobby […or an obsession in some cases!] Work commitments have so far made it difficult to practice riding as a full team, although 3 members have dome various training rides up to 60 miles, 2 having recently completed their first 100 miles day, making us fully appreciate the task ahead.

More updates on training miles covered, averages speeds [hopefully increasing] to follow.

To be Continued……………

Over the coming weeks, a number of people will come together to ensure every detail of the ride is organised. In addition, regular blog updates will show our training progress, fundraising efforts with daily commentary, photo’s & video from the ride itself in August.

“It never gets easier, you just go faster” - Greg LeMond, 3 time winner of the Tour de France.

As with all charity events, their success rests on fundraising efforts & the generosity of people wishing to donate, PLEASE DIG DEEP!
