Story
Having just celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary, it’s been a reminder of how long we have been on our very bumpy fertility journey. I was so naive entering all of this and never imagined I would be writing the following
In summary:
- 1095 days of trying to have a baby.
- 33 weeks (collectively) being pregnant.
- 2 heart beats.
- 4 miscarriages.
- 3 surgeries.
- Never ending appointments, bloods tests, scans and invasive procedures.
- 0 answers.
This is why I have decided to run the London Royal Parks half marathon on Sunday 10th October for Tommy’s charity. Tommy’s are a baby loss charity who do amazing work supporting couples through loss and are also dedicated to find causes and treatments to save babies lives. For me, one of the hardest parts of this journey is not having an answer as to why four of our babies have died at the very start of their lives. I recently read that 50-75% of recurrent miscarriages remain medically unexplained. That’s a hard statistic to swallow, knowing we may never have an answer and may have to continue down a path of such uncertainty and potential ongoing trauma and grief. It makes me feel so sad that other couples will continue to go down this path unless more research is done to find out why this happening and learning ways to make it possible for couples who desperately wish to be parents.
By running this half marathon I hope to raise a minimum of £500 for Tommy’s, so they can continue their hard work to find answers and make what seems impossible, possible. I have 5 weeks to get fit and raise money for this amazing charity. Any donations and support would be greatly appreciated.
If our journey has been triggering for anyone, whether on a similar journey or on an entirely different fertility journey, please reach out. I’m always happy to talk, share experiences and provide support any way I can. A big thank you to my family and friends for their endless support. And to my husband Jon who has picked me back up and given me hope and positivity throughout.
