Story
Well Hey......
Firstly thank you for clicking on the link and finding out what it’s all about.
So for those who don’t know me I’m Liam and I run Holein1 Lynmouth. Lockdown taught me that life isn’t always thrills and glory, some days do get tough. It made me think if I’m finding it difficult, a guy who’s usually on top of the world how are other people coping? Mental health especially amongst young people is something that requires awareness. During these times it’s easy to forget how many battles people face on a regular basis.
Because of this I got my thinking cap on. Many mad ideas got thrown about, many shut down instantly from my mum on the phone saying “Liam are you stupid” but it wasn’t long until I settled on this.
On Saturday 27th June @ 8:00am I’ll be starting my challenge. I’ll be continuously putting for 29 and 1/2 hours completing a total of 759Holes (my mum still said I was stupid but this time I decided to ignore her.) My challenge has been split up into 45minute time slots. Every 45minutes I’ll be looking for a keen putter to join me on course to complete a round. I’m hoping this will keep me motivated and my competitive spirit up! With everything going to plan and relying on me not nodding off mid shot my final hole will be played on Sunday 28th @ 13:30pm.
You may be thinking why 759Holes or I’ve not heard of the charity ‘Ask for Jake’ before?
So let’s start with the reason behind 759Holes, last year sadly 759 young people aged 15-24 took their own lives. Although there is higher awareness about mental health now compared to in the past, there’s still a stigma surrounding it. The statistics speak for themselves when I say many young people find it hard to reach out for help until they hit crisis point. So if this challenge helps raise awareness locally and gets people talking, reducing this stigma I’ll be one happy man! (Even happier if I reach the target)
Finally ‘Ask for Jake’
This Braunton based charity was founded after the sudden suicide of Jake aged 18. Ask for Jake provides a network of trained volunteers to support mental well-being and individuals in distress. The charity is designed to provide early intervention to minimise escalation of mental health and provide signposting service locally to support mental health and well-being
I understand this is a difficult time for everyone but if you are able to support my efforts in anyway I’d be extremely grateful. If your passing Lynmouth on the day of the event your support will be much appreciated especially as the hours go on.
