After meeting one of Afghanaid's Trustees I was inspired to dust off my running shoes (they have been seriously underused in the last year!).
Afghanaid are a British based charity who have been working in Afghanistan for 30 years. They work across three main areas in the Country:
- Basic Services (water, sanitation, hygiene, education & community infrastructure )
- Livelihoods (natural resource management, agriculture, rural savings & small business)
- Disaster Risk Reduction (emergency assistance in the face of natural disasters e.g. flooding
These guys really are great - the delivery team are all based in Afghanistan and is made up of local people.
Where will your hard earned money go!?
- £12 can provide a family with a lifesaving water filter
- £25 can pay for sanitation and hygiene training for 30 women
- £40 can buy enough fruit saplings to establish one private orchard, allowing a woman to feed her family
- £100 can pay for basic bookkeeping training for six women, setting them up to manage basic finance and run a small business
- £250 can build an outdoor latrine for one family, thereby reducing the risk of diseases
- £520 can buy blankets, clothing and shoes for 20 children, ensuring they are warm during the freezing winter months
- £1,500 can build a safer, new home for an afghan family
