Story

“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. Whoever alleviates [the situation of] one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever conceals [the faults of] a Muslim, Allah will conceal [his faults] in this life and the Hereafter." (Muslim)

As the call to Islam is growing so is the oppression of many new Muslims when it comes to finding support from friends and family, whilst Alhamdulillah my family are now accepting and supporting, many sisters I know have been disowned, threatened, been made homeless, faced abuse and much worse.

Ramadan can be an especially challenging time for new Muslims around the world as many are left celebrating alone, especially now with masjids closed and social distancing measures. Having iftaar, being able to pray Taraweeh with family and celebrate eid together isn't a privilege new Muslims have unfortunately so it is important to support them when possible.

During my first Ramadan when my parents were unaware I was Muslim, I was hiding food in my room for suhoor, I had to pray with a lot of distraction in the background (music, tv sounds), I was unable to properly sit down practise in case they saw me with the Quran or Islamic books, I had to sleep for the majority of the day so my parents wouldn't question why I wasn't eating. During this time Ramadan became a struggle for me as I wasn't eating enough and became ill so I can only imagine what other new Muslims who are in a worse situation are facing.

Now Alhamdulillah my situation is a lot better and I have built an amazing support network with sisters, friends and family, but not everyone has access to that which is what Solace UK is trying to provide.

£30 - Support for mediation with non-muslim family and financial support for single mothers

£30 - Sponsor counselling, ruqya and well being sessions

£50 - Provide legal support costs for revert sisters.

£50 - Provide revert sisters with basic necessities such as food and clothing.

£50 - Sponsor revert sisters to learn and study the Deen.

£250 - Emergency housing for homeless sisters and rent costs.

Please, donate generously in this month of Ramadan.

“Those who spend their wealth in the Cause of Allaah, and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” (al-Baqarah 2:261-262)
