I first heard about "Storybook Dads" when they came to my school to show us some of the work they do. Storybook Dads is a local charity who work with prisoners in Dartmoor Prison, helping prisoners to create a CD or audio book of them reading a bedtime story. This is then sent to their families, for their young children to listen to.
I was amazed at how such a simple idea can make such a huge impact; it helps keep families together, and plays a big part in stopping the prisoner re-offending ( it reduces the chance of re-offending by up to 6 times)
Each year, 160,000 children suffer the trauma of the imprisonment of a parent. By sending them an audio book, they can remember the sound of a parents voice. The charity work within the prison, thus also giving work to the prisoners.
Please please donate to this brilliant charity - a couple of pounds each will go a long way.
For those of you who were fortunate enough to remember of the running group Taradelen (made up of; Tara, Adele and Helen!) will know that running is NOT my thing - I hate it!
So the fact that I am running to raise money for this charity shows how much I think of them.
This link is to a video which Storybook Dads have made of me!
