Story
Following on from being part of a Team that successfully raised £4000 over the last 2 years by walking from Devizes to Bath I have decided to take the plunge and take part in an exciting opportunity to raise even more money. At the end of October this year I will be taking part in the India Dalai Lama Trek to help raise money for the Royal United Hospital Bath (RUH) and their Forever Friends Appeal. This charity and hospital are very close to my heart as it is where I was successfully treated and so well looked after in 2012 when I was diagnosed with cancer.
The 67k (41.6 miles) 5 day trek is set to be an incredible challenge with the unique opportunity to hike the foothills of the Himalaya’s in North India and discover the spiritual home of the Dalai Lama. For those of you who know me well, the walking I will take in my stride (pardon the pun) but I will need a whole new mind set when faced with the other challenges of no running water, no toilets etc. for 5 days. I was overwhelmed by people’s generosity in previous years and the donations I received played an enormous part in motivating me to achieve my goal. I have pledged to raise £2850 and this is where you can be part of this exciting challenge. With your sponsorship support and my walking boots, we can play an important role together in transforming the care for patients and their families that will find themselves in need of these world class Cancer Care services in the future.
You may already know, the Appeal is currently focused on the RUH Cancer Care Campaign - raising a minimum of £8.5 million towards the build of a pioneering world class new Cancer Centre at the RUH in Bath. Whilst the clinicians do an incredible job and deliver a high level of cancer care, the services are currently run in poor quality 1940's single story buildings that are just not fit for purpose. This campaign will see the build of a new Centre (in partnership with the NHS) that is centred around the patient journey and experience on the basis of long term survivorship, that provides a truly therapeutic healing environment. This project aims to be completed within the timeframe of 2016-2018.
If you are able to, any sponsorship would be greatly appreciated and it will provide me with the encouragement, support and motivation that I will need to accomplish the 67 kilometres.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
