Story
Help to beat lung cancer.
I lost my mum in May 2012 to this terrible disease and having been lucky enough to not experience it before in my life it was a huge eye opener! MacMillan Nurses and our local hospice, Wigan and Leigh, were absolutely amazing and I want to do other fundraising in the future. I hope that in years to come Cancer Research will find a cure and other people don't need to go through this.
My mum was an inspirational person in her personal life and through her working career as a staff nurse, nurse practitioner, alternative therapist and nurse therapist. In the last few years she worked with The Christie in Manchester helping others with cancer and we had the privilege to meet some of them after her death. She certainly made a positive impact on everyone that she met and I am very proud of that!
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in the UK, with around 108 people being diagnosed every day. The good news is that lung cancer rates in the UK are dropping thanks to fewer people smoking. Cancer Research UK has played a key role in raising the awareness of the dangers of tobacco. But there’s still more to do – sadly, progress in helping people with lung cancer survive has been slower than for some other cancer types. However, lung cancer can also affect non-smokers like my mum!
Many thanks for your support.
