Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you will know my brother died 11 years ago following a short battle from Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and more recently in December 2008 my mum was diagnosed with Acute Adult Myeloid Leukaemia. My mum went into hospital in January 2009 to undergo intensive chemotherapy treatment, however she suffered a rare reaction to the treatment and in February we were told that she only had days to live. Whilst my family and I were struggling to come to terms with the news my mum had other ideas and a week later was still with us and fighting for her life. Over the next few days she defied the consultant's diagnosis and woke up and started eating and drinking again for the first time in weeks. To our amazement and the medical staff’s amazement who nicknamed her 'The Miracle Lady' she then started to talk and eventually walk with the help of some physio. Only a few weeks later we were able to take my mum home. Following a bone marrow test in March we were told that my mum was in full remission and in September she was back doing 4 mile walks in Devon.
I have always loved running and shortly after my mum started to make her recovery I ran the Reading Half Marathon, however watching my mum fight for her life and come out the other side wanting to embrace life and live it to the full has inspired me to do something I have always said I would like to do but never quite got round to doing....the London Marathon. My mum is truly an amazing women who is so positive about life that I am dedicating this to her and hoping I can manage to run the distance and make her proud.
I selected Leukaemia Care as the charity I wanted to raise money for because they offer support to the patients and their families who suffer from blood borne diseases such as my brothers and my mums.
