One way or another Dementia and the awful effect it has on families has been a constant part of my life. From an early age I struggled to understand why both of my great grandma's had suddenly changed from the lovely little old ladies I knew and loved into very complex, distant and sometimes aggressive people. It was my first experience of the devastation this awful disease can cause.

So many wonderful people I have had the pleasure of knowing have ended their days as victims of one form or another of dementia. I would love to raise this money to fund vital research into this dreadful illness, if it helps even just a few people live better lives through treatment and skilled care facilities it will be worth every single step of the 26.2 miles.

We may never find a cure but we can help educate and train carers to support families and be there for those affected when it matters the most.

Our memories are so precious, let's hope we get to hang on to ours.
