Story
This may come as a shock to anyone who hasn't seen me for a while, but I'm running a half marathon on Sunday. I can do it, honest; I did one a couple of weeks back in a respectable 1hr 56 mins.
The observant amongst you may have noticed that the accompanying picture bears little resemblance to me. It is in fact the gorgeous Nell McAndrew. I figured a photo of her was more likely to encourage people to read this page and illicit some sponsorship. Last weekend Nell managed to complete the 21.0975km in 85 minutes, dressed as Batgirl in PVC. Whilst I'd love to emulate the look and the finishing time, the flesh is weak, old and flabby and I'd worry about chafing and heat rash. Instead, I shall be hauling my fat arse around in nasty running 'tights' and surgical supports, sporting a very fetching Croydon facelift. I aim only to drag my runner's knee and injured foot over the finishing line before they close the course and re-open the roads.
The event is called Run to the Beat and it's taking place on Sunday morning. The race, which starts and finishes at the 02 Arena, is set to live music with an array of bands playing along the route around Greenwich.
I am running for the event's offical charity, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. They are the only UK charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Over the past 3 years they have raised over £800,000 through the event. you can find out more about them at http://leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk/
