Story
As many of you know, we lost our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend in January 2016, after a relatively short but aggressive battle with small cell cancer.
Micky was a hard working man with barely a days illness in his life. This however all changed when he developed a pain in his back in April 2015. Back pain was his only symptom until a diagnosis was made in July 2015. At this stage he was given a life expectancy of 2 weeks without treatment and 4-6 months with it.
Naturally Micky chose the treatment and positively faced radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone treatments. He never complained, was grateful for his medical care and always had a positive outlook.
Unfortunately advances in treatments are too late for Micky, but he would of been proud for something positive to come out of our loss.
To mark Micky's first anniversary we are raising money to fund research into small cell lung cancer, and simultaneously raise greater awareness of this dreadful form of cancer.
The money raised will fund research by Dr Gerry Hannah and his team at the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology at Queen's University to improve the effectiveness of radiotherapy treatment.
Your donation will help give hope to patients with the lowest survival rates of any type of cancer, and help to transform the future for those living with the disease.
Also if you're in the Belleek area on Sunday 12th February 2017, we are holding a sponsored Fire Walk (walking on hot coals) at the Jolly Farmers Bar & Restaurant at 5.30pm, which we would love you to support. There will also be live music and a raffle, so it should be a good evenings entertainment!
