Not built for cycling, a possibility of chafing and heart failure and that's just the flight! Never a fan of Lycra and now I'm told it's compulsory! Sleeping in groups for 10 days is another reason why I'm wondering what I've let myself in for. However, the charity is close to all of us and I know to complete this challenge and raise this money will do me and many more some good.
So on November 14th 2016, The very Fabulous Five Helen C, Jo, Helen H, Lisa, and Oriele are setting off to cycle through Burma, from the foothills of the Shan Plateau to the Central Plains, a distance of some 476 kms in 6 days.
We aim to raise £16,000 for the Genesis Research Trust, based in Imperial College Hammersmith. The largest UK-based collection of scientists and clinicians who are researching the causes and cures for conditions that affect the health of women and babies.
Their work aims to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of devastating conditions which cause genetic diseases, miscarriage, premature birth, brain damage and cancer. The fundamental aim is to improve women's health & to ensure that more women have a normal pregnancy with a healthy baby.
Thanks to the recent support, three significant projects have been funded:
- An ultrasound machine to monitor the cervix & the risk for women going into labour prematurely.
- DNA/RNA analyser to carry out research across a wide spectrum of conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, recurrent miscarriage & preterm birth.
- A project involving state of the art high resolution imaging predictive tests to identify women at risk of recurrent pregnancy loss.
This charity lies at the heart of one of the most profound of all human choices: to have a happy and healthy family.
