Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Those of you who know the two of us will not be suprised to hear that Allison is running the 10k....she has after all been into running for years......but when you think about the fact that she has an eight week old baby I think you'll agree that it's pretty blooming amazing to be back in the saddle so soon after giving birth!
On the other hand, everyone is no doubt slightly shocked that Helen is doing it....she is, after all, the least likely person to take part in running of any kind! So here's the story......
We're running the 10k to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity. After giving birth to her beautiful 10 month old son Will, Helen suffered badly from post-natal depression, and has first hand experience of how traumatic and debilitating it can be. Post natal depression is surprisingly common, and affects 1 in 10 mums, but so often it is kept a secret, with women being frightened they will be percieved as "bad mothers" if they speak out, and so all too often, they suffer in silence and don't get the help they need to recover.
Before this happened, as is probably the case for most people, a mental health chartity wouldn't have been top of our list of charities to support, just because we'd never given it a second thought, and never dreamed we'd be affected by it. But we have. And so are millions of other people who desperately need help and support.
So please, please help us to raise funds for this fantastic cause.....and if you want to come and cheer us on (or laugh at us at the finish line), feel free!
