Shock Absorber Novice Triathlon · 2 July 2011
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and donating to the worthy charity - Breast Cancer Care.
As most of you will know, not having cycled since I was at school, only having spent my gym time in the pool walking and talking, and really only ever run for the train one mad Saturday afternoon watching TV I saw a triathlon and decided that was to be my new sport. Spurred on by Mark and Naomi (yes I blame you!) I entered a novice triathlon.
Oh - first problem - no bike, so I started bidding on eBay and eventually secured a 30 year old racer for £36. So off I set on my weekly training sessions starting with a 15 minute cycle.
Then for swimming - a few lessons were necessary as I had never tried front crawl. Now 10 months on I am addicted to lake swimming and set my alarm for the unearthly hour of 6 am on a Sat to get to my triathlon club swimming sessions - the aim 3,000 metres - reality about 1,500 on a good day!
And the running - now up to about 5 km with a tail wind - thanks to my running partner and "gremlin" in my ear telling me to keep going and breathe!
So please make all my work and hours spent training worthwhile by sponsoring me and providing me with a great incentive to keep going in my 200 metre lake swim, 5 km cycle around a windy lake and 2.5 km run at the Olympic rowing venue (Dorney Lakes) on 2nd July.
Many thanks. Helen x
